Worthy Cause Blog: Tunnel to Towers Let Us Do Good Village Welcomes First Family - Danielle Thornton
On December 17, 2022, Danielle Thornton, a surviving spouse of U.S. Army SPC Robert Thornton Jr., and their children Jaylen and Kinsley were the first residents of the Tunnel to Towers Let Us Do Good Village in Land O' Lakes, Florida.
U.S. Army SGT Robert Thornton Jr. passed away after passing out during physical training at Fort Bragg North Carolina. When Robert collapsed, several other comrades helped him and took him to Womack Army Medical Center, where he passed away from an undiagnosed enlarged heart.
Robert was a member of the 528th Sustainment Brigade and was from Cairo, Georgia. He joined the Army and served in South Korean garrisons at Yongsan Garrison and Fort Benning. He was a soldier who had received numerous honors and decorations. Robert will always be cherished for his love of his family and his nation.
Robert and Danielle served together after meeting in college. She was an Army Staff Sergeant when she left the service.
Danielle is eager to settle in a neighborhood where people and families may connect via common loss experiences and aspirations for the future. "My children and I are ecstatic to be moving into the Let Us Do Good Village. It's a true blessing to be the FIRST Gold Star family to reside here, adds Danielle.
“I prayed many nights that I would find a way for my children and myself to heal, and I believe this community is just what we need. It won’t take the pain away, but it is a starting point in being able to be around families like ourselves that understand the daily struggles we endure. I am
forever grateful to Tunnel to Towers for blessing us with this home.” - Danielle
The Let Us Do Good Village is a first-of-its-kind community that will offer mortgage-free houses to the families of fallen first responders, Gold Star families, and veterans who have suffered severe injuries. In this neighborhood, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation will construct less than 100 homes, all of which will be given to American heroes without mortgages. The neighborhood will have a cutting-edge community center with an ADA-compliant gym and pool, a theater, a playground, a basketball court, a pickleball court, and meeting spaces.
The Let Us Do Good Village seeks to unite families from similar experiences in order to facilitate healing and mutual assistance.

We are still on a mission to raise $25,000 for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation this year and we are getting close! We do this by donating to them a portion of our income from homes we sell.
As you know Tunnel to Towers Foundation does AMAZING work in helping our nation’s first responders, veterans, and their families by providing these heroes and the families they leave behind with mortgage-free homes. They are also committed to eradicating veteran homelessness and aiding the victims of major U.S. disasters.
