Honoring Deputy Glenn Hilliard: Tunnel to Towers Pays Off Family Mortgage

Recently, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the mortgage for Wicomico County Sheriff’s Deputy First Class Glenn Hilliard’s family. Deputy Hilliard, a 16-year law enforcement veteran, was tragically killed in the line of duty in 2022. His wife, Tashica, and their three children can now continue to heal in their family home without the financial burden of a mortgage.

The Tunnel to Towers Fallen First Responder Program supports families of law enforcement officers and firefighters who are killed in the line of duty, pass away from 9/11-related illnesses, or leave behind young children. This July 4th, the foundation honored Deputy Hilliard's service and sacrifice by providing financial relief to his family.

Deputy Glenn Hilliard embarked on his law enforcement career during his freshman year of college as a seasonal police officer in Ocean City, Maryland. Initially a Computer Science major, his experiences on the force inspired him to switch his focus to criminal justice. This pivotal decision set the stage for a dedicated career in public service.

After gaining valuable experience at various local agencies, Deputy Hilliard joined the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office in 2012. Over his 16-year tenure, he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and community. Recently, he had transferred back to patrol duty upon his own request, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to protecting and serving.

Tragically, on June 12, 2022, Deputy Hilliard was pursuing an armed, convicted felon with an active fugitive warrant. In the line of duty, he was shot and killed. His loss is a profound tragedy for his family, colleagues, and the community he served with honor.

Deputy Hilliard is survived by his loving wife, Tashica, and their three children, De’Aijah, Jersi, and Trenton. Tashica shared, "Tunnel to Towers immediately took a huge burden off of me and my family by paying our mortgage. When we lost Glenn, I was in the middle of nursing school, and Glenn was the sole provider for our family. We may have lost our family home if it were not for the Tunnel to Towers."

Deputy Hilliard’s legacy is one of bravery, dedication, and selfless service. He will be remembered not only for his contributions to law enforcement but also as a devoted husband and father. His story is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve and protect our communities.
