First Responders Who Have Died From 9/11 Illness

For first responders, volunteers, and survivors of the 9/11 attacks, the COVID-19 epidemic was yet another catastrophe that made them feel vulnerable. Each year, first responders who've died from illnesses related to the attacks are honored as their names are added to the World Trade Center memorial wall at FDNY headquarters.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was founded in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks to assist the families of deceased first responders and military personnel, often by paying off their mortgages.

What You Should Know

  1. For the first time, Tunnel to Towers has announced that it would pay off the mortgages of first responders who died as a result of 9/11-related diseases and left behind young children.
  2. This new initiative will benefit about 75 to 100 households.
  3. On September 12, 2021, a ceremony will be held at Tunnel to Towers to read aloud the names of all individuals who have died as a result of 9/11-related illnesses at a public ceremony.
